Serbia's popular music has two homes that could hardly be further apart: the clubs of Belgrade and Novi Sad, where the new wave of the Yugoslav years came through Šarlo Akrobata, Idoli, Električni Orgazam, Ekatarina Velika and Partibrejkers while Riblja Čorba and Bajaga filled the halls, and the field at Guča, where every August the brass orchestras compete for the golden trumpet, the tradition Boban Marković, Šaban Bajramović and Goran Bregović carried into the world; around them Đorđe Balašević's songs, the pop-folk of Lepa Brena and Ceca, the nineties of Darkwood Dub and Van Gogh, the hip hop of Beogradski Sindikat and Marčelo, and today Repetitor, Buč Kesidi and Konstrakta. The list has 50 records from 1974 to 2023, one or two by each of the names above and only a small part of what they made; the classical and church singing, the diaspora and most of turbo-folk would each need a list of their own. About 36 hours of music, 5 days of a few records each.
