Chile's popular music has the cueca and the tonada at its root, Los Cuatro Huasos and Margot Loyola, then Violeta Parra, whose Las últimas composiciones opened the Nueva Canción, Víctor Jara, Quilapayún, Inti-Illimani and Illapu, the peñas and the exile years, Los Jaivas' Alturas de Machu Picchu and Congreso, Los Prisioneros' La voz de los '80, Los Tres, La Ley and Lucybell in the nineties, Myriam Hernández for the ballad, Tommy Rey and Chico Trujillo for the cumbia, Los Bunkers from Concepción, Javiera Mena, Gepe and Ana Tijoux's 1977 in the 2000s, Mon Laferte, Paloma Mami and Polimá Westcoast today, with Claudio Arrau and Melissa Aldana for a nod to the piano and to jazz. The list has 55 records from 1958 to 2023, one or two by each of the names above and only a small part of what they made; Patricio Manns' sixties records, Chico Trujillo's Chico de oro and Polimá Westcoast's Marino are not on Deezer, and the cueca and tonada beyond a nod, the song of the north and of Chiloé, the Mapuche song and most of the classical tradition would each need a list of their own. About 39 hours of music, 5 days of a few records each.
