Ecuador's popular music has the pasillo at its heart, the slow song of Julio Jaramillo, Carlota Jaramillo, Olimpo Cárdenas and the Dúo Benítez-Valencia, and around it the sanjuanitos of Ñanda Mañachi from Peguche, the bomba of the Chota valley in Margarita Laso's voice, the marimba of Esmeraldas with Papá Roncón, the tecnocumbia of Jaime Enrique Aymara, Gerardo Morán and Delfín Quishpe, the rock of Quito from Sal y Mileto to Rocola Bacalao, Sudakaya and Cruks en Karnak, Juan Fernando Velasco's ballads and his pasillos, Mirella Cesa's pop, and Nicola Cruz, Mateo Kingman, Swing Original Monks, La Máquina Camaleón and Lolabúm today. The list has 48 records from 1963 to 2024, one or two by each of the names above and only a small part of what they made, the old singers in the reissues that reached streaming; the song of the Amazon, the bands of the fiestas, the 78s of the first pasillo singers that never reached streaming and the classical tradition, of which no Ecuadorian ensemble is on Deezer, would each need a list of their own. About 39 hours of music, 5 days of a few records each.
