Ukraine's popular music has a song at its start for most listeners, Volodymyr Ivasyuk's Chervona ruta, sung in the seventies by Sofia Rotaru, Smerichka and Nazariy Yaremchuk while Nina Matviyenko kept the village songs; the Chervona Ruta festival of 1989 brought the rock of Braty Hadiukiny and Vopli Vidopliassova, Lviv's Skryabin and Taras Chubay followed, Okean Elzy filled the stadiums, Kyiv and Kharkiv added Tartak, TNMK and Boombox, Ruslana and Verka Serduchka went to Eurovision and Jamala and Kalush Orchestra won it, DakhaBrakha, Onuka and Go_A took the old songs into theatres and clubs, Ivan Dorn, Monatik and alyona alyona made its pop and rap, Jinjer its metal, and Zhadan i Sobaky its indie. The list has 54 records from 1972 to 2022, one or two by each of the names above and only a small part of what they made; Plach Yeremii is missing because its records are not on Deezer, and the kobzars' old recordings, the choirs and the classical music beyond a nod to Silvestrov, and the singers of the diaspora would each need a list of their own. About 43 hours of music, 5 days of a few records each.
